THE ROAD FROM KENYA TO ZAMBIA - April 2005

David Robertson and television producer Julia Samuel began their Land Rover journey from Nairobi, Kenya on 11th April to give away mosquito nets and proceeded through Tanzania and Malawi for Africa Malaria Day in Lusaka, Zambia. Just over 4,000 kilometres were covered and 750 mosquito nets were given to children’s homes, hospitals and small communities for pregnant woman and families with young children.

Press conferences organised by UNICEF, World Vision, the WHO and "A to Z" were held in Nairobi, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Iringa and Lilongwe. We were welcomed by press, radio and television at the Malawi/Zambia border. Other press conferences were held in Kapata and Lusaka, where Zambia’s First Lady and Vice President were present.

Many news stories were made, several of these being front page news and much television and radio news coverage for malaria and the "Drive Against Malaria" was created. We filmed and photographed some of the villages along the way and also filmed within health centres and hospitals. This footage was used to complete the television documentary “Challenge Africa”
